macho for the Mission!

The Old Mission Santa Barbara holds an abundant amount of history for our community. It was the 10th of 21 California Missions founded by Franciscan priests during the 18th and early 19th centuries. It sits in a lovely place with a view of the Pacific Ocean. It is a local meeting spot for picnics in the Mission Rose Garden. And, it is undoubtedly a prominent piece of history for our community and a focal point for tourists.

Now more than ever, Old Mission Santa Barbara needs the help and support of the community. For the month of December, we are supporting the Old Mission Santa Barbara with our Good Karma Tap. For every pint of Mas Macho Amber Lager purchased we will donate a $1 to the Mission.

The Mission has served as a gathering place and spiritual home in Santa Barbara since 1786. Today the Mission operations include a museum, gift shop, cemetery and mausoleum, several historic gardens, as well as being the home to a community of Franciscan Friars on about 15 acres. Old Mission Santa Barbara has been primarily a self-sufficient operation with about 85% of its annual operating revenue comes from visitor tours, the gift shop, and venue rentals. The other 15% comes from the support of the other entities housed at the Mission, individual donations, and event revenue. The Mission does not receive state or federal funds, nor does it receive financial support from the Catholic Church. While housed at the Mission, the Novitiate (friars in training), the St. Barbara Parish, and Santa Barbara Mission-Archive Library are all separate non-profits. With a heavy reliance on revenue from tourism the mandated closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in a critical financial shortfall for the Mission.

Lets Spread Some Holiday Cheer!

In support of our Old Mission Santa Barbara, you can also donate to sponsor an ornament, wreath, or Christmas tree as an individual/family or in honor of a loved one and help decorate the front of the Mission. All proceeds go to support the on-going operations and preservation of Old Mission Santa Barbara. The wreaths will hang out front along the Mission portico and will have tags to list the name of the sponsor or name of the individual you would like to honor/remember. The wooden ornaments will be hung on one of three trees that we will have out front on the front portico. Available online and in the Mission gift shop. Wreaths and Trees will be up the week of December 7th through Christmas. Please visit www.santabarbaramission.org/christmas for more information on sponsoring.
