April's Karma Tap - SBC Search & Rescue

If you have ever wondered what a local hero looks like, look no further than the passionate team of volunteers for the Santa Barbara County Search & Rescue.

Who are they?

Hopefully you will never need their services but it is good to know they have your back if you do. This group of very well-trained volunteers dates back to 1962 when three separate teams were formed in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and Santa Maria. This volunteer branch of the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office is composed entirely of unpaid citizens of Santa Barbara County. Team members generously donate their time, energy, and money to become proficient in many aspects of wilderness emergency rescue. Their areas of expertise include high-angle rock rescues, car-over-the-side accidents, downed aircraft, swift water rescues and other medical emergencies. The team is also highly trained in search operations for overdue hikers, mountain bikers, missing children and lost hunters. The team works very closely with our County Air Support Unit to provide these life saving services under varied and often difficult circumstances.

Since our Draughtsmen team is an active outdoor bunch we were really excited to have the opportunity to help support a group of local individuals that spend so much time, effort and money to help others in need. Thank you SBCSAR!
