Reno King, Hops Wrangler
Reno King is one of the elusive and rare locals still around these parts. Born and raised in Goleta, CA, he first got into brewing at the age of 18 when he realized he could buy the ingredients to make beer (but not the final product!). While earning his BA in Biology at UC Davis, he earned the title of the beer guy by supplying his own home brew to gatherings and parties. It wasn't until 2011 that Reno realized brewing wasn't just a pastime, it was a professional calling. He owes his start in commercial brewing to Santa Barbara County's award-winning and fastest growing brewery Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company. In 2014, Reno accepted the Head Brewer position with Poseidon Brewing Co in Ventura, CA, where he worked closely with owners Brian Oliver and Vinita Anand to establish and build out their brewing system, as well as develop and scale their recipes. In 2016, Reno and his friends Scott Stefan and Kris Turner turned their mutual dream into a reality by opening Draughtsmen Aleworks.
Besides all of this brewing nonsense, Reno enjoys whipping up a mean meal with his wife, Sara; romantic walks on the beach with his brewdog, Raptor; and chewin' the fat with old and new friends over a pint of craft beer.
